batch hot sauce (personal project)

  • For years now, i’ve been growing my own habanero chillis from seed and turning the end of session glut into hot sauce for friends and family.

The sauce itself is a loose Mexican style hot sauce made with pineapple and vinegar for drizzling’ over tacos, but it’s become a bit of store cupboard classic. So much so that the requests are starting to stack up for the next years batch.

  • Having bottle the stuff 2 years running, it started to bug me it didn’t have a logo and so - for fun (why not) I designed the flaming pineapple.

There was no brief and without trying to make it something it’s not. I decided not to give it name.

Instead, the focus was on the illustration and effectively working with the negative space to give the illussion of heat and movement in the fire by printing on a holographic vinyl sticker.

The result is a simple, timeless hand-drawn aesthetic with a modern application of negative space. It’s become a popular gift when visiting friends and the default first impression is to twist the bottle from side to side catching the light and bringing the logo to life; all unprompted.

  • >Hand illustrated logos

    >Photoshop ageing and ink absorbtion effects.

    >Digital print ready files (both distressed and clean) for vinyl sticker printing.

    >general satisfaction of filling my own and friends fridges with own brand limited run hot sauce.

    >Scoville rating 2-300,000; that’s pretty hot.

holographic vinyl

this design made use of movement created by holographic vinyl when the light catches it.

The design made use of negative space by illustrating the flame to appear as a 3 dimensional layer with movement.
